Winter Retreat 47 x 67 x 3 cm                        Cold Waters- 54 x 90 x 6cm

In the past my work has been concerned with the arrangement of forms and their internal spaces. These spaces, together with the decoration of the surfaces, created a link from one form to another. Each image was a series of fragmented forms that could be viewed independently, however its message was far more powerful when looked at as a whole. As time has progressed I have closed the gaps and made each piece complete. The compositions are larger and the materials are used more directly and spontaneously. The resulting body of work brings together my two passions, ceramics and painting, into uniquely composite pieces. The work combines landscape and cityscape and are like aerial views, depicting my love of contradictions; complexity and simplicity, traditional and modern and country and city life. My work doesn’t naturally conform to stereotypical categories. It is about responding to the materials rather than about the materials themselves. It is also a reflection of my upbringing and identity. Throughout my life I aim to challenge myself to explore different approaches to my work. My intention is to strive to produce work that is a rich synthesis of form, meaning and texture.
